Fund your studies without waiting

Fondo Studio, officially called “Fondo per il credito ai giovani”, is not a scholarship and it is not a non-repayable grant.

It is a tool that allows students to access a bank loan guaranteed by the Italian State to start or complete their post-secondary studies. The fund acts as a guarantee for the bank. This means students can apply for funding without needing personal guarantees, such as a payslip, proof of income, or the signature of parents, family members, or other guarantors.

Thanks to Fondo Studio, young people can receive funding to independently cover the cost of their education and invest in their future.

A student loan is a type of funding designed to support students during their studies. It is different from a traditional personal loan because it is built around the needs of someone who is still studying.

Here are the main features:

• No income guarantees required: you do not need to provide a payslip, an employment contract, or a guarantor’s signature.

• Gradual disbursement: the loan amount is usually paid in yearly instalments, based on the length of the study programme. This helps reduce the risk of borrowing more than needed.

• Grace period: there is an initial period during which you do not have to repay the capital, so you can focus on your studies.

• Flexible repayment plan: after completing your studies, repayment can usually be spread over several years. The exact conditions are set by the banks providing the loan.

• No income or ISEE requirements: student loans are not usually based on income or ISEE requirements.

When the loan is paid in separate instalments, especially for multi-year study programmes, checks are carried out before each new disbursement. These checks confirm that the student still meets the required conditions.

Depending on the bank product selected, one or more of the following conditions may be checked:

• Regular enrolment in the following year, usually proven by payment of the tuition fee.

• Regular attendance, when required.

• A minimum number of university credits, CFU, as set by the study plan. The required threshold may vary from one bank to another.

When the requirements are no longer met, the next instalment may be refused. In some cases, this can lead to the final interruption of the funding.

If the funding is interrupted, the disbursement phase is considered complete and the grace period begins. Once this period ends, repayment starts according to the timing and conditions agreed with the bank.
