Aligned with its mission to promote education, Habacus supports two student libraries in Venice by contributing to the purchase of books for young readers.

Aligned with its mission to promote education, Habacus has donated two vouchers worth €2,500 each to enrich the libraries of the Duca D’Aosta and Gaspare Gozzi primary schools in Venice, part of the Dante Alighieri Comprehensive Institute.

This initiative enables the schools to expand their library collections by purchasing 400-500 books from the historic Toletta bookstore, a cornerstone of the Venetian community. The first orders have already been placed, and the books are expected to arrive in a couple of months, as school libraries are currently closed due to COVID-19 restrictions.

The two libraries will be developed following the model of the Renier Michiel School Library, a project spearheaded by retired teacher Luana Mazzoni. This library concept is tailored to children’s needs, encouraging reading and discovery through guided pathways involving teachers and parents. The selection of books has been based on the schools’ needs and respective educational programs. The collection includes a mix of narrative texts, such as classics, fantasy, and mystery novels, as well as books on topics like inclusion, history, science, the environment, and gardening.

The thematic focus of Duca D’Aosta School will center on botany. With a large green space on its premises, the school offers students the opportunity to put what they learn in books into practice through dedicated workshops. Gozzi School, on the other hand, will prioritize books that encourage reflection on gender equality and diversity, providing children with the right tools to identify and embrace values like sharing and social inclusion.
