About Habacus
Habacus certifies students’ academic performance and promotes the right to education.
Our goal is to make post‑secondary education accessible, informed, and sustainable.
The first Italian organization connecting merit, credit, and inclusion
Habacus is the first entity in Italy to certify students’ academic performance, facilitating access to student loans in an objective, digital, and independent manner.
In Italy, access to university remains unequal
A challenging context for students and families
Italy has one of the lowest graduation rates among OECD countries. 35% of students cite financial difficulties as the main obstacle to continuing their studies. In this scenario, Habacus acts as a bridge between students and opportunities.
Habacus was founded to enhance human capital
Since 2017, a journey of innovation and impact
Founded by Paolo Cuniberti in 2017, Habacus addresses the educational gap with technological solutions and institutional partnerships. In 2024, it closed a €5 million funding round led by P101 SGR and CDP Venture Capital to strengthen its network with banks and universities.
The company has already certified over 50,000 students, facilitating access to student loans through its network of around 1,300 educational institutions, banks, and companies.
Moreover, Habacus aims to reach up to 100,000 students by 2026, consolidating an integrated educational and professional ecosystem.
How the Habacus certification service works
Habacus certifies academic performance, integrating it into banking systems to facilitate access to student loans, even without collateral. More than 10,000 students every year use the platform to fund their university or master’s studies.
Habacus is not just a bridge between students and student loans, but a comprehensive platform that integrates educational guidance, skills certification, information validation, housing solutions, and job placement opportunities. Only 0.8% of certified students discontinue their studies, compared to the 17% national average [source: Istat].
With the aim of reducing university dropout rates and promoting inclusion, the Habacus community has already proven its effectiveness. This demonstrates how access to tools like study funds can make a real difference in academic success.
The student loan: an under‑known but essential tool
An accessible resource for those who demonstrate academic commitment
The student loan allows students to cover the costs of post-secondary education with favorable interest rates, repayable only after completing the program. Contrary to the perception often associated with the term “merit,” these products are not reserved for top performers: they are designed for those who show consistency and motivation.
Loans with state guarantee change the game
The role of the Fondo per il Credito ai Giovani and the 2024 reform
In July 2024, the Fondo per il Credito ai Giovani, also known as “Fondo per lo Studio”, was deeply reformed with the introduction of the garanzia statale di ultima istanza, which covers up to 70% of the capital disbursed. Thanks to this innovation, banks can significantly reduce their share of risk and support greater accessibility to credit for individuals without assets.
Technology serving education and employment
The Habacus platform connects academic career and the job market
Habacus’s digital architecture enables continuous monitoring of educational paths and integrates ESG metrics. We are building a national infrastructure to make educational investment more transparent, sustainable, and valued by the job market.
The Habacus platform is built on an API-based architecture, designed to enable full digitalization of the credit cycle, continuous monitoring of academic careers, the collection of ESG metrics on educational investment, and direct linkage between education and the labor market. Our goal is to build a national infrastructure that makes investment in human capital measurable, sustainable, and accessible.
Three areas of action to support students and families
Habacus operates on three levels: financial education, academic guidance, and investment awareness.
• We support families in evaluating the economic impact of university;
• We provide practical tools to compare costs, returns, and career paths;
• We help students understand how a loan works and what it entails.
We offer the tools to decide whether and how to access credit for their future.
