Student loan: for which universities and educational programs is it available?
Student loans are increasingly popular tools for financing education. But for which universities and educational programs can you apply for them? Let’s find out in detail.
For which universities can you apply for a student loan?
To apply for a student loan, you must be enrolled in a study program. Generally, all Italian universities recognized by the MUR (Ministry of University and Research) meet the eligibility criteria.

Which educational programs are included?
Student loans are not limited to traditional university courses. Here are some additional options:
AFAM (Higher Artistic and Musical Education): Includes academies of fine arts and conservatories.
SSML (Higher Schools for Language Mediators): Programs focused on linguistic and cultural training.
ITS (Higher Technical Institutes): Professional schools with strong connections to the business world.
These post-secondary programs are included in financing opportunities.
Student loans for the Erasmus program
If you’re considering participating in the Erasmus program, you can apply for a student loan to cover extra expenses during your stay abroad. You just need to be enrolled in an Italian educational institution and prove your admission to the program. ✈️
How does student loan disbursement work?
Academic commitment requirements
To obtain a student loan, enrollment alone is not enough. Banks may require additional proof of academic commitment. Some common requirements include:
- Minimum high school grade: Generally above 75/100.
- Earned credits (CFU): For students who have completed the first semester, some banks require achieving a minimum percentage of credits (e.g., 50% or 80% of the expected CFUs).
Disbursement methods
Loan disbursement is usually spread over multiple installments, distributed over time. The methods can vary depending on the course duration:
✍🏼 Multi-year courses (e.g., bachelor’s degrees): Semi-annual or annual installments, subject to verification of academic requirements.
✍🏼 One-year courses (e.g., master’s programs): The full amount may be disbursed in a single payment.
This flexibility ensures that students receive the necessary funds according to the progress of their educational journey.
