It\u2019s the \u201ccommercial\u201d part of your loan\u2019s rate, and it varies from one provider to another.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Example:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>IRS 10A = 2.8%<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Spread = 2.5%<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fixed rate = <strong>5.3%<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What does \u201cloan duration\u201d mean in a student loan?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In a <strong>student loan<\/strong>, \u201cduration\u201d refers only to the <strong>repayment period<\/strong>, not the years spent studying.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Repayment starts about <strong>30 months after the last disbursement<\/strong> (check your lender\u2019s conditions). From that point on, you\u2019ll pay fixed monthly instalments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Example:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Last disbursement: June 2025<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Repayment starts: December 2027<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Repayment duration: 10 years<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>End of loan: December 2037<br>\u2192 In this case, the applied IRS will be the 10-year rate.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>\u26a0 Some banks may begin to <strong>accumulate interest<\/strong> during the pre-repayment period (the 30 months where you&#8217;re not yet paying back).
